Jamal sterrett - Self taught performance artist with aspergers

"I am on the spectrum and the many frequencies I receive are wavelengths that can form my formlessness. If I choose to let them in."
I am a self taught performance artist with Asperger’s. specializing in ethereal movement techniques that blends Free Form Bruk Up, and ballet, with a unique emphasis on gliding. My art is deeply rooted in responding. Where I use my autism to interpret and express the essence of diverse environments Translating them into powerful improvised performances. Essentially I work and practice in site-specific environments, absorbing and reflecting the essence of a location. All while Using the heightened senses of my Asperger’s as a guide for movement.
The picked up visual and sensory information is replicated internalised and channeled into physical movement. Whether that’s in an art gallery or on a stage. All environments, people and spaces, are paradigms and frequencies that have their own eternal consciousness. Diagnosed in 2008 and found Movement in 2016. Dance gave me the tools to control these intense internal messages and use them as a force of expression. I call the philosophy “spectra” as I am on the spectrum and the many frequencies I receive are wavelengths that can form my formlessness if I choose to let them in.
