Jamal Sterrett was one of three dance artists (alongside Vasiliki Papapostolou and Gary Clarke) invited to perform at Fussballkultursommer - Art Of Play at the Brandeburg Tor in Berlin, Germany (2024). The performance took place at the historic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and was live streamed on large screens visible from a distance. Creative Director/Curation/Project Management: Milena A. Kraft
The Art of Play: concrete ballet_ explores the relationship between body, sound and the magic of collective space. The performance evolves in the meeting of various art forms: contemporary dance, live video- and sound performance creating a dialogue in the tension between stillness and motion, the elegance of play is at center. Three dancers from different sub-cultural dance styles move through the audience on the lawn in front of the Brandenburger Tor; they interweave physical theater, bruk up ballet, hip hop, krump traditions, ballroom latin and street style influences.
Digitally modified audio files and synthesizer sounds are creating both lush and intimate soundscapes. The dancer’s motions continue seamlessly into an hour-long DJ set and extend into the audience. Creating new, sensual and sensory space for collective experience.
